When I heard on the Get your Geek On podcast that you were doing Wildflower and then an Ironman this summer, I was floored. If I may make a suggestion, don't forget to work the hamstrings in the weight room. I think lunges are pretty good - more functional, but still very effective for those hammies. Trust me, I've had to do a lot of extra hamstring work to get those caught up with my quads. I am a novice cyclist, but as you mentioned, the only time you passed people was when you were just spinning away. For a 112 mile bike ride, it's no good to have quads of steel and hamstrings of cheese; you need those hammies to spin.
