It's the worst smell in the world.

What comes to your mind?

Cat pee, right? There isn't much worse.

I don't have a cat.

Can someone please tell me why the area near my desk smells like cat pee?

(Because, it's undeniably, indisputably cat pee. There is nothing else that smells quite like that.)

Nevermind. I don't want to know.

I'm going to go run, and then I'm going to scrub the carpet free of whatever the hell nastiness somehow infested my apartment.

And the worst part? Aside from huge piles of unfolded, CLEAN laundry, I'm a neat and clean person...sometimes to a fault (cough OCD cough cough). So, do I deserve this horrible stench in my apartment?

I think not. Once again, I have to end with my sound of indignation.

Hmph.

Oh definitely. Cat pee is the worst...one of many reasons I can't stand cats. Thought I'd stop by and say hi...just came across your blog and read your IM Frace race report. Amazing!

Cat pee makes me sick...ugh.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who builds of piles clean, unfolded laundry...whew...that's what I'll be doing this weekend - putting it all up!

I screwed that up. I meant, "Glad to see I'm not the only one who builds up piles of clean,....."

I think I should just go to bed!

Oreck No Return has some kind of magic enzyme that makes the pet stain and odor disappear. Mrs. Greyhound and Nytro swear by it.

I'm a guy, so I can't smell anything anyway.

My roommate and I both think that workout clothes smell like cat pee. So we did a little research. Apparently, as our workout intensity increases, so does the excretion of a nitrogen containing compound in our sweat.

Not that you needed to know that...
but your post reminded me of that!

Keep in mind that if someone who resided there previously had a cat, it is possible that both the carpet and the pad (assuming there is a carpet pad) were affected.

You'll want to make sure you get something that can soak in a bit. Perhaps use a steam cleaner.

We rented a townhouse where prior tenants had a cat that had pretty well destroyed one area under a staircase. I had to force the property manager to rip out and replace that section of carpet and pad.

Perhaps that's one reason I despise cats.
