Other times, you just need to have a big laugh at yourself.
My mom suggested that I go to temple tonight. I figured I might as well...couldn't hurt, right? It might actually make me feel better.
So, I got all dressed up in a cute little A-line white skirt that my aunt in England gave me...and headed out for services. The synagogue that I found was less than a mile away, so I figured I'd walk there.
It had been raining on and off all day, so I brought an umbrella.
Okay, umbrellas...they're a nice invention and all...but in a freaking monsoon? They don't work so well. As in...they don't work at all.
And that cute little (but not too little--it was temple, afterall) white skirt that I wore? Completely see-through. I might as well have been wearing nothing...that might have been better, actually. As I mentioned, the skirt was white...so I had worn a thong, hoping to avoid underwear lines. Yeah, I avoided those all right...you could see right through the damn skirt and it was totally obvious what kind of underwear I was wearing.
I almost turned around and just went home.
But no, I stayed...and hoped that everytime we had to stand up, people were actually looking at the rabbi and not at my very pink butt.
By the end of services, my skirt was dry, and it was no longer raining.
Of course.
Somehow though, it all cheered me up. Flashing an entire congregation of Jews is pretty damn funny, I must say. Luckily, I opted for a Reform synagogue, right?

That is a pretty funny vignette. I was at Temple too and I emailed you something from tonight. That is good that you ventured to services. I am proud of you. Love, Mom
This post came to my mind when two minutes after I started running today, it started pouring rain.
Glad it helped lighten your mood.
clearly, i was in the wrong synagague today...
lol at Danny's comment. Hope you weren't too embarrassed. A little exhibitionism is good every now and then ;)
Some of the people at my church will comment about people wearing shorts or other casual attire. I always say that it's better they are in church in casual attire than somewhere else in more formal clothes. I wonder how some of the blue haired ladies would have reacted to your little dilemma.
